Research Project pt 2

This weekend I have been doing more reflection on what I should do research on for Tech 621. I have also gathered research that is already out there. I do feel that there is chatter about internet safety and dangers, however, I think that there needs to be much much more.

Therefore....I propose that I do a needs analysis for the project. Displaying the small amount of data and chatter that is taking place on the topic, alongside with the statistics on Internet crimes, can provide a view of what is needed.

What are your thoughts?

  1. 1) your title is quirky. I'm a fan.

2)given your background, I think this is a perfect, and I agree whole-heartedly: it shocking that there is so little in regards to internet safety and dangers, and the needs analysis would be a good thing to pursue. How expansive are you going to make that though? The only real fear I have is that once you get into the breakdown of needs, what keeps it from becoming subjective? I think that we could come up with some needs on our own, with just that small chatter, but given that there is so little, how easy will it be to justify more than a handful of things?

I could be thinking about it wrong, or alternatively, could just be ridiculous. :p

  2. Rachel, based on my informal observations, there is a lot of chatter out there about Internet safety - a lot of people share links. I think you're on to something here. You can identify the topics that people tend to discuss in terms of Internet safety. You may find that there's a lot more talk of malware than crime. Based on the findings, you can draw conclusions about the need to raise awareness about some topics, and maybe design a plan for a social media campaign to do so. Am I making sense? Email me or talk to me if you need more clarification.
