Law Enforcement and SNS
As you may or may not realize, SNS's are becoming a medium for criminals. They may send messages, perform transactions, or just post their criminal behavior on their pages. Some SNS's work very well with Law Enforcement Officers (LEO). They will provide the information on the bad guys site to LEO. Some other SNS's (I will not name any names), do not work well with LEO. They will abide when a subpoena is sent (court order to provide the information), however, some of them will inform the individuals that LE is watching them, or just delete the profile all together. This can severely hinder an investigation!!

Domestically-owned SNSs should definitely be required to fully cooperate with LEOs imo. However, I could see a lot of them moving their operations overseas if it affected their business.
ReplyDeleteHave you ever heard of criminal or terrorist orgs communicating through video games? I swear I read or heard about that somewhere. It may be a lot tougher for an LEO to track.
I don't know. On the one hand, of course I'd like the bad guys to get caught. On the other hand, knowing that a service provider gives info to the police without a court order can be a bit invasive. I'm not sure what to think about this.
